23 Things

When I think back to the beginning of this journey, I think I have learned a lot about the techno world. Several months ago it was a struggle just to create a blog and now I can access it easily. Doing 23 things has opened my mind to what the endless possiblilities are for communication. Some new vocabulary has been added to my repertoire in that for some of things I have looked at now I have some simple frame of reference. Remembering what I have done is another thing though. Without using these "things" on a regular basis, I will probably forget a good deal of it. So, in short, this has built in mind expansion and awareness. And... I have enjoyed doing it as it has been a challenge!

Farecast

I chose to explore Farecast which predicts the way the prices will go on airline tickets - up, down, or stay the same. When I tested out a Canadian flight I found that Edmonton was not listed. I could choose to "vote" to put Edmonton on the list. Some Canadian cities on the list were Vancouver, Toronto, and wouldn't you know it, Calgary! This site would be useful for travel agents, maybe occasionally at the reference desk of a public library.

Zoho

I arrived on Zoho and created an account and now I have icons on my desktop that I'm not sure I will ever use. I am told that Zoho is like a universal word processor (will accept all formats).

Library 2.0

I have only just begun to grapple with the fact that the library, as I have known it for my lifetime and for a 36 year career (in school libraries), is changing. My best guess as to what Library 2.0 is about is that it equates to continual change or evolution. What we will end up with, who knows. We seem to be chasing after every new technological invention. It is mind boggling to say the least. The notion that we should be in touch with the whole world through blogging is difficult. As with every new idea that comes along, there is a marketer out there just waiting to make a fast buck. It seems funny that in this day and age of more communication tools it is becoming more difficult to talk to a real person without playing tag (oops! Tag has many meanings now). I just hope that technology doesn't dehumanize society for future generations. Oh, the angst that change brings!

Del.icio.us

I don't think I will make use of this. I do not socialize on the internet.

Library Thing

This looks like something I could use and perhaps tell my book club members about. I entered eight books that I have bought as Christmas gifts. This may be a good way of tracking books that I have given and good suggestions for future giving.
